PREGNANCY DUE DATE CALCULATOR MADE EASY

Did you just discover you are pregnant? Congratulations! One of the first questions you will most likely have is when am I due? Unlike some would lead you to believe, finding your due date is not that difficult. One of the biggest things to keep in mind though is that regardless of how, or who, a calculation is just that, a rough idea. Your baby may make their grand appearance 2 weeks ahead of schedule or 3 weeks later than your due date. It really is out of your hands, so always keep that in mind. In fact, only about 4 in 100 women deliver on their due date.

Pregnancy Due Date Calculator

One of the oldest and most reliable ways to calculate your pregnancy due date is by simply doing it yourself with a calendar.

Since we know that a pregnancy is approximately 280 days, or 40 weeks, you can take the date of your last period and 40 weeks to it.

Another way is to take the date of your last period and add 9 months and 7 days to it. So, if Jan 1 was the date of your last menstrual cycle, you can add 9 months to it, which is Oct 1, and then add 7 days. Your due date would be Oct 8th.

While knowing your pregnancy due date may seem trivial at times, it really is important. The doctors use it to determine when to run certain prenatal tests among other things.

PREGNANCY WEEK 5 - HERE COMES THE MORNING SICKNESS

Being 5 weeks pregnant starts a whole new period in your pregnancy. It is around this time that most women begin to experience those dreaded two words, morning sickness. But, morning sickness isn't the only thing taking place with you and your baby as you will soon see. Here's a look into pregnancy week 5 and what is now happening with you and your growing baby.

Week 5 is the time that many new mothers-to-be actually discover they are pregnant. They have now missed their last period and most likely had a pregnancy test that has delivered the exciting news. Although you may have just found this out, your new baby has been growing the entire time!

Baby

At week 5 of your pregnancy your baby has grown to approximately 0.05 inches long. Amazingly, that is less than 1/10 of an inch long.

What is even more amazing this week is that a miracle has taken place. Your baby's heart has now started to beat! This happens when the plate that forms into the heart has developed to the point that the heart starts beating. No, you can't hear it of course, but it is. A true miracle indeed.

In addition, this week is when the neural tube begins to fuse. Are you taking folic acid supplements? If so, this is where they play an important role in development.

Mother

As mentioned earlier, although you are not showing any outward signs of being pregnant, you sure are on the inside. This is the time that some women begin feeling the effects of morning sickness. (You can find out more on morning sickness in my blog).

Are your breasts feeling sore at times? If so, you may want to start wearing a jog bra. It gives them much better support and helps with the soreness.

Believe it or not, there is a percentage of women who will never experience morning sickness during their pregnancy. If this is you, you are indeed blessed!

Continue to eat healthy during your pregnancy. Try to avoid high fat foods or those containing lots of sugar. You will not only feel much better, but you'll avoid the extra weight that you will not have fun trying to take off later.

Congratulations on being 5 weeks pregnant. Although it may not seem like it at times, it will go by fast.

PREGNANCY - SKIN CARE TIPS FOR PREGNANCY

Your skin can go a little crazy during pregnancy, thanks to the extra hormones rushing around in your body. Just because you are pregnant doesn´t mean you have to suffer through nine months of blotchy skin, though. In fact, this is the ideal time to get healthier skin in general.

Cleansing your skin during pregnancy is essential if you want to keep hormone-related outbreaks to a minimum. Since your skin may be more sensitive than normal, it may be beneficial to use a soap designed for sensitive skin. A glycerine based soap is perfect for this purpose. Avoid harsh astringents, even if you feel that your skin is very oily. Instead, try a gentle scrub of raw quick oats to remove excess grease. You should also not wash more than a couple times per day or your skin could end up very dry.

One of the best things you can do, both for your baby and your skin, is drink a lot of water. This helps flush the toxins out of your body and not only leaves your skin fresh and glowing, but can prevent hypertension during the final trimester, which can stretch your skin and damage it. So, up your water intake and keep that healthy shine.

Pregnancy can make you more susceptible to sun damage and you may find that you now tan unevenly or develop unsightly splotches. To prevent this from happening, try to stay out of the sun when it is at its strongest (usually 11 am to 3 pm) and use a good product with SPF of at least 15, if not higher. Also, to prevent discoloration problems, make sure you use a sunblock whether or not it is sunny out, since harmful rays can make it through clouds as well.

Should you experience a major breakout during pregnancy, be careful what you use to treat it. Certain acne treatments may be dangerous for your baby, especially during the first three months which is when most pregnant women find themselves battling pregnancy acne. Avoid using over the counter remedies until you have talked to your doctor about their safety. You can use a natural remedy such as witch hazel, though, without harmful effects.

If you use makeup, try to use a light layer to let your skin breathe. Most women will want to use a foundation or concealer to even out the natural variations in coloring that occur during pregnancy, but if you go this route, be sure to wash it off every night before going to bed. Leaving makeup on can block up pores and cause more outbreaks. Combined with the hormones of pregnancy, you could be in for some major trouble if you don´t clean off your makeup and cleanse your skin regularly.

Skin care during pregnancy doesn't need to be overly complicated, but you will need to take a bit more care than usual. Try to use fairly natural skin care products, as some chemicals can affect your unborn child. If in doubt, talk to your doctor. Apart from that, you should be able to enjoy a healthy pregnancy, for both your skin and your body.

PURIFIED FISH OIL OMEGA 3 PROVIDES ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WHILE AVOIDING KNOWN RISKS

Child bearing woman can get the essential fats they need while avoiding known risks from food sources. Taking a stand for the critical importance of adequate omega-3 intake in pregnancy, a group of scientists recently announced a position that differs from a 2004 USDA advisory recommending that pregnant women and young children limit their intake of fish and seafood.

Mothers and their developing babies need the type of omega-3 fats found in fish, but there are serious concerns with how much and what type of fish to consume. Many fish sources contain neurotoxic metals, in particular methyl mercury. Purified omega-3 fish oil capsules are a suitable solution.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are required for normal infant development, especially for the brain, nervous system and vision. These unique essential fatty acids support a healthy pregnancy and have added benefits for mom. Plant source omega-3s do not provide the same essential fats. The solution lies in how to get enough of these critical nutrients without potential harm to mom or child. It's been estimated that in North America, an estimated 90% of pregnant women don't get the minimum amount of essential fatty acids that they need.

Company's have launched a trial programs to provide people with Omega 3 fatty acids to help address the issue and contribute to improved health for mother and child. It's in every woman's best interest to consume more Omega 3's before, during and after pregnancy, "There is a concentrated and purified product available to every pregnant woman.

MASSAGE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN - PUT MISCONCEPTIONS AND TIRED FEET TO REST!

A pregnant woman has many natural choices for relief from her physical challenges. However, many mothers-to-be take extra precautions toward their health when they are pregnant. Combined with a lack of knowledge or clarification about alternative therapies such as massage, too many pregnant women are missing the amazing health benefits provided by prenatal massage.

Just like choosing any health practitioner, your choice in massage therapists should make you feel confident. Pregnant women should choose a massage therapist who has had special training in prenatal massage. If you live in a more populated area, you may be able to find a therapist who is also trained as a doula.

What about the rumors? So many styles of massage are practiced in the world that some misconceptions have circulated about massage for pregnant women.

First, pregnant women were forewarned about getting their feet massaged. The increasing popularity of Reflexology began the circulation of misconceptions, literally. Reflexology is one style of massage that focuses on the feet. Points on the feet correspond to organs and tissues elsewhere in the body. By this logic, stimulation to reproductive points in the feet could result in improved reproductive health. Therefore, a reflexologist could create healthier conditions for mother and baby by rubbing special points around the feet and ankles of pregnant women.

Sadly, caution turned to paranoia. Ignorance skewed our understanding of this healthy concept, and soon women worldwide were afraid to have their feet rubbed. Some purport that getting one's feet rubbed can induce premature labor.

But the rumors didn't stop there. Pregnant women stopped getting reflexology, then stopped getting their tired, swollen feet rubbed completely, then...*gasp*...

Some mistruths actually warn pregnant women from getting massage entirely.

Yikes! This is disastrous! This myth should signal a national health crisis! Pregnant women have stopped getting their feet rubbed? (That should have been Alarm #1) and Now, Pregnant women are reluctant to get massages entirely...Whoa!

To dispel the myths "once and for all", let's look at the facts. Pregnant women have been getting their feet rubbed since the beginning of time! Reflexology is a very intentional use of deep pressure for reasons of improving physical conditions. No evidence has ever connected reflexology to unhealthy conditions in pregnant women.

Nikiah Seeds, a Canadian doula and Reflexology practitioner, reports that reflexology during pregnancy can have the following health benefits: * Ease heartburn, constipation, morning sickness, hypertension, and swelling. It has postnatal benefits, for both mothers and infants, too.

Most massage therapists will practice a modified Swedish massage for pregnant women. The client is made to feel comfortable. Most of the massage is gentle and relaxing.

Pregnant women can expect to feel some of these health benefits from prenatal massage:

• Relaxed muscles

• Improved sleep

• Reduced stress

• Enhanced immunity and circulation

• Less fatigue, more energy

• Better flow of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus

During her entire pregnancy, Crystal Roldan received regular massages. When asked about the greatest benefit of getting massages when she was pregnant, Crystal replied that prenatal massage "eases pain. When you're pregnant, your lower back is in pain, and your ankles swell, plus I was on my feet a lot for my job. With the massages, the pain was gone. It made my life so much better." Crystal is now a massage therapist, specializing in prenatal massage, at Higher Spa & Studio in Basalt, Colorado.

Final Thoughts: Put the rumors, and weary feet, to rest. Give those pregnant women a break, and Give them a Massage!
